1. ETA – Estimated Time of Arrival
To use in a sentence, it's very simple:
What is the ETA? The ETA will be around (시간) on (날짜)
Answer in the future tense and use the "Be" Verb.

2. ETD – Estimated Time of Departure
What is the ETD? The ETD will be around (시간) on (날짜)


3. Packing Slip – It is a list of products that will be shipped for export

4. Confidentiality Agreement – Secrecy contract

6. Draft – Before a contract becomes a contract, it is a draft until all the negotiations and changes are made.

Price cuts fail to move much imported rice

May 10, 2006 ㅡ Korea's Agriculture and Fisheries Marketing Corp. sold only a fraction of its imported rice on an online auction yesterday despite a cut in prices, the company said. The state-run corporation said it managed to sell just 86.6 tons, or 2 percent, of the total 4,394 tons of U.S. and Chinese rice on the block at its biweekly auction. Of the total sold, 54.6 tons was Chinese rice, with the rest being U.S. Calrose brand. It said the minimum bidding price for a 20-kilogram (44-pound) sack of rice fell to around 25,000-27,000 won ($27-29), down sharply from the 31,000-won tag set at the first three auctions that took place in April. "The fact that imported rice has been sold is an improvement over nothing being sold as in the previous two bids," an official said on condition of anonymity. The agriculture ministry said Monday that the minimum prices for some imported rice will be lowered from this week to boost sales. The ministry and the agricultural marketing corporation said they could not release the names of any bidders because of concerns such information could cause protests from local farming groups.A lack of consumer faith in the quality of the imported rice is suspected of having harmed sales. The second auction this week is expected to take place tomorrow. Seoul increased the number of online auctions per week from one to two as of this week as part of efforts to sell off the rice that is starting to pile up.

1. Focus Group – A product testing group based on target demographic.

2. Survey – It is a questionnaire used to determine demographics.

As you heard in this survey, he asked how many stores the shopper shopped prior to purchase and when they plan to make the next purchase. They also wanted to know her age and income level so they can get a picture of product purchaser’s demographic.

We will also do a dialogue dealing with a Credit Card customer service representative.

겅희: Why do you want to dispute this charge?
준: I ordered the product 2 weeks ago and I still haven’t received it.
경희: Did you ask the seller for a refund.
준: Yes, he said, I have to call you.
경희: Please write us a letter requesting a credit on your account.
준: OK, thank you.

As you can see, credit cards offer buyer protection. A seller has 48 to 72 hours to ship his products to you. If the buyer does not meet this time frame and you don’t receive the products you can receive a credit for your account. You have anywhere from 60 to 180 days to dispute a charge on your statement.

Now we will discuss how to write a letter to the credit card company to dispute a charge on your statement.

In your letter please follow a 4 step process.
1. Identify yourself, declare the amount, and the date product was purchased.
2. Please say the date and time and the name of the customer service representative you spoke with and the instructions he/she gave you.
3. Say what you purchased and how the seller did not perform the service or how the product was not delivered and state that you want a credit on your account.
4. Thank them.

Business tidbit of the week: Overseas investment –대외적 투자
Overseas direct investment from Korea reached $3.5 billion from January to March. Currently South Korea’s economy is the 12th largest in the world. President Roh’s goal is for Korea to become the top 10 largest economy in the world. I believe in order for Korea to reach this goal, we should keep the money in the country, instead of reaching out, we should reach within.

Now our business tip of the week: How to address people.
When you first meet somebody, it’s generally safe to say Mr or Ms their name. Once they ask you to call them by their first name please call them by their first name. Otherwise they will feel uncomfortable if you call them Mr. or Ms. Their last name or sir or ma’am.

Letter Format
It is a very simple step-by-step format
1st Paragraph:
Hello my name is ______________, I am writing to dispute a purchase that was charged on my account for the amount of $288.00. The charge is dated April 12, 2006.

2nd Paragraph:
On May 3, 2006, on or about 10:43am, I spoke with Kelly in regards to the aforementioned issue and requested a credit on my account. Kelly instructed me to write you a letter.

3rd Paragraph:
I purchased a DuoBack chair from Auction and the seller promised delivery within 2 days, It is 2 weeks later and I still haven’t received the product. I have attempted to contact the seller on numerous occasions and failed to reach the seller every time. Please credit my account for the aforementioned amount.

4th Paragraph:
Thank you for time and a speedy resolution to this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Notes:
Focus group: Before a market launch of a new product, some companies use focus groups (a sample of people that fit the target demographic profile of their target market). Usually multiple (more than one) focus group is used.

They will normally test a product and give their opinions and the company will make changes according to the focus group survey.

A Survey is a questionnaire that a company will ask to see how people feel about products, issues, etc.

*When the boss says, "When you have time", it means to do it right away.

Conversation 2:

A: Will you clear my schedule and hold my calls?

  1. Skimp: To give very little.
    이제부터 단어를 좀 살펴 볼텐데요, 일단 간략하게, 몇 가지 표현들을 볼께요

The most commonly associated meaning for discriminating is having good taste, the definition for marketing purposes are someone who knows what they like and will only buy what they like.

Since this is an adjective, you will also use the Be verb to make sentences with this word. 이 표현은 형용사 이기 때문에 꼭 be동사랑 함께 쓰시면 되구요

  1. Projected: Future Expectation 예상되는 미래의 계획

Example:

How many people are projected to come to our product launch party?

-얼마나 많은 사람들이 우리의 상품을 위한 launch party에 참석할까요? / 예상되시나요?

How many units are projected to sell after market launch?

-market launch 이후에 얼마나 많은 상품들이 팔리게 될까요? / 기대할 수 있을까요?

When you use projected in a sentence, please use the Be verb. As in the example sentences you just heard.

  1. High End: Just think of this as super expensive! LOL

In class, you used this word very well, so well leave the explanation out.

  1. Mid-Range: Think of this is as less-expensive products.

  1. Affordable: A persons ease of purchase in relation to their socio-economic status. For example, a Ferrari is affordable to Bill Gates. It is not affordable to the average person.

So lets review the basic 6 steps:

1. Formality and Intro:

Here, you greet everybody, thank them for coming and introduce yourself, in class I made you introduce the company, since this is your product launch, everybody in attendance knows the company name already. You also dont have to introduce yourself if you dont want to.

- 인사말: 여러분 자신이 누구인지, 하지만 자세히 하진 않으셔도 되구요, 회사에 대한 설명도 하시면 좋지만, 이미 온 사람들이 회사에 대해 알고 온 거기 때문에 반드시 하시진 않으셔도 되구요,

Please introduce your product, what it is.

정확히 상품이 무엇인지

3. Target Demo:

Who you want to sell to: Sex, Age, socio-economic status

어떤 사람들에게 상품을 팔건지 : 그들의 성별이나, 나이, 사회적 지위 등

4. Why its a good idea:

Talk about how they would benefit and why its different from other products.

Talk about how much you expect to sell

Now, you guys, we will add a new twist to this. You can add 2 and 3 together, so heres an example:

Ladies and gentleman, thank you for attending our product launch. We will launch a new high end perfume for the woman with very discriminating taste. If you buy our perfume, you will be a member of a very limited club. Our projected sales are 1 million units per year.

As you heard we combined steps 2 and 3. For step 4 we made a mini-commercial, the speaker said, If you buy our perfume, you will be a member of a very limited club. Instead of saying, why its a good idea, sell the image or dreams that the product offers. This example shows that all people who can afford this perfume are high end and only very few people are very high end is the message. So for step 4, please sell the message you want to say.

-위에서 들으셨듯이 우리가 step 2 step3를 한번 합쳐 볼껀데요, step 4를 위해서 작은 광고를 하나 만들꺼에요. Speaker가 이 상품을 사시면 한정된, special한 클럽에 구성원이 된다고 말하는 게 훨씬 더 좋은 방법입니다. 직접적으로 왜 이 상품이 좋은지, 이 상품이 제공하는 이미지 같은 거에 대해서 말하시는 거 보단 이런 표현이 훨씬 좋구요, 이 예는 몇 안되는 특별한 사람들만이 이 상품을 살 수 있다라는 이미지를 갖게 해 주고요, step 4를 위해서는 어떤 말을 하고 싶으신지를 전달하시면 됩니다.

Dont clear your throat before the speech, if you have to do it, do it before the speech where people cant here you. Do not clear your throat during the speech either.

If you are on a stage, please walk to different parts of the stage

- 프리젠테이션을 위한 마지막 팁인데요, 제일 중요한거는 audience랑 눈을 맞춰서 얘기 하시는게 좋구요, 스피치를 하기 전에 목 가다듬는 소리를 내지 않는 게 훨씬 좋으세요, 반드시 꼭 해야만 한다면 스피치 하기 전에 사람들이 못 듣게 하시구요, 그리고 스피치 동안에도 역시 목 가다듬는건 안 하시는게 좋구요. 사람들에게 나눠주신 자료를 읽을 수 있는 시간을 주시구요, 무대위에 올라가서는 한 곳에만 서서 연설하시기 보다는 무대 위 이곳저곳을 움직이시는게 좋습니다.

Remember when we learned PR (public relations), one of the examples of public relations is donating money. When the news of the Hyundai Chairman came out that he was embezzling funds, Hyundai donated a lot of money. This was done, so that he could win the peoples sympathy. We just saw the PR machine at work, just wanted to let you know.

-PR에 대해서 배우셨을 때를 생각해 보시면요, 일단은 PR의 하나의 예로 돈을 기부하는 게 있는데요, 현대 chairman의 뉴스가 나왔을 때, 그 사람이 횡령을 했어요. 근데 그때 현대가 많은 돈을 기부를 했고, 이렇게 하고 났더니 그가 사람들에게 동정심을 살 수 있었어요. 이 얘기는 돈을 기부하는 모습이 PR을 통해서 방송 됐다는 거예요. 그래서 PR의 하나의 역할로는 사람들이 그 광고만 봐서는 현대가 기부하는 것만 생각하게 한다는 것입니다.

Finally Our Business Tip of The Week: Listen to you heart

When you have a great idea, do not listen to anybodys advice. What is a good idea you ask? It is an idea that comes from you heart with a strong fire of passion, an idea so strong, only you understand it. In general most people that give you advice have good intentions. Most people will tell you its a bad idea, on this note, remember that if they thought it was a good idea, they would have thought of it. They only say its a bad idea because they didnt think of it.
